Hi Apps like these are great if you want to be able to hear station announcements while on the train and listening to music or a book. However, if you want to wear them while walking around, for example while using a GPS, these apps are no good, as you don't get any sense of direction in terms of where the sound has come from.
I do use awareness when on trains etc., if I am waring my in ears, but there are limitations to what these apps do, so I just thought I would point that out so if anyone is thinking about weather its worth purchasing one of these apps, they can make an informed decision. Cheers, Brett. Awareness the headphone app by Essency allows you to hear what is being fed over the earphones and also the sounds in your environment. both are fed through the earphones. this app is 6 or 7 dollars. Another one that does a similar thing is Listen Upby Neil Norman. This one is 1 dollar. both require a wired set of earpones and work with the mike on the earphones not the built-in mikes on the phone itself. At least that is what it looks like from the description. Have fun. The link is from one of those curated sites, this one is grommet. After the link is the description. They cost $149, U.S. I've only just read about these headphones, but haven't checked them out. Would love to know if someone has any experience with them, and would also love to know how they compare with AfterShocks. http://www.thegrommet.com/earhero-safe-earphones earHero World's Safest Earphones Tune In, Not Out Listening to music on noise-cancelling headphones often means shutting out the world around you. While that's ok in some circumstances, it's not safe when you're biking, running, skiing or doing other activities that require situational awareness. A sophisticated headphone solution aims to solve that problem. The earHero system uses miniature speakers that are tiny enough to fit into the ear canal but won't block it, which means outside sounds can pass. Users can still hear sirens, horns, and even conversations while they're listening to music. The system was designed by audiologist Matt Murphy, who went on a ski trip and realized skiers with ordinary headphones couldn't hear what was going on around them. He started playing with hearing-aid components to create earHero's tiny units, which have been widely adopted by government agencies and security personnel. Minimalist and comfortable, earHero's headphones can be worn for long periods without ear fatigue. They fit securely, so you won't be constantly adjusting them during a run, for example. Noise-cancelling headphones tune out everything but your music. EarHero is different. You can tune into music without tuning out the world around you. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
