Hi, Blindsquare does an ok job of telling you how far you are from the
intersection. It tends to work better if you are walking rather than
moving in a vehicle like a bus or someone's car though. Yes, as far as I
know, if you have an iPod Touch with a compatible GPS it can connect to,
then it should work just fine. I have personally never tried this though.

Hello,
Will any of these systems work on i-touch with GPS interface and will
they tell how far one is from the intersection?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi, Blindsquare will do this will no changes in the settings, although I
usually set the filter to street names and intersections only. When I'm
traveling in a new area and I want to know where I am in terms of the
streets, I don't care about businesses around me. Now, when I'm more
familiar, then I'll usually like knowing what else is there. Ariadne is
excellent as well as long as you follow the below suggestions of making
sure the app is in the foreground, start monitoring is enabled and you
will then get the current location spoken by Voice Over itself.

This is sort of inline with a post asking about the vOICe for iOS. I was
wanting something to read me intersections on a bus. Seigard (sp?)
mentioned blind square would do this, and I've found that Ariadne GPS will
too, as long as it's open, in the front, and VO is turned on. The "Start
Monitoring" button is what's needed to activate this feature. I'm running
Ariadne on an iPhone 4 btw.

Recently, someone asked a question regarding GPS programs which would
verbalize the names of intersections. I apologize for not saving the
message in question as I cannot quote it or even approximate what the
respondent said. But, if I remember it correctly, I understood the
message to say that none of the GPS programs would verbalize the street
names unless one were using an iPhone 4S or 5. I want to be sure I
understand this. Am I to understand that if I am running either a 3GS or
4, there are no GPS programs which will verbalize the names of streets as
one is approaching?
Thanks.
