Everyone has to decide for themselves whether an app is worth the price being asked for or not. I know some people feel they can get similar functionality from less expensive apps or apps with a different payment method and that's great! For others, this app has features they're willing to pay for. This is no different than any other set of apps in the App Store, note taking apps, calendar apps, PIM apps and so on. There's a lot of choices and a lot of prices and it's good that we have another option.

What I don't understand though about this thread is why some people think others care about whether they're willing to pay for this or any other app. I'd like information on the app, reviews, podcasts, a trial period, comparisons with other apps and so on. I'll decide for myself if I think it's worth the money or not. I don't really care if someone else in a different situation thinks it's worth the price or not.

I've pulled down have been at no cost to me. And as for descriptiveness,
they're descriptive enough if you actually pay attention to where you're
going. I've gotten me from A, to B, to C using that app with virtually no
problem. But then again, I also don't totally and completely rely on
technology not to get me lost either.

With the greatest of respect, I disagree with the note below. The seeing eye
application does provide additional description of intersections and
actually provides true turn by turn directions that are usable by a blind
person in a fashion that is much better than the other applications. For
example, if you're doing a pedestrian route with this application, you're
more likely to end up on the right side of the street to reach your
destination then you are with some of the other GPS applications. In
addition, if you do want to receive map updates on Navigon, You do have to
pay an extra fee. Thanks.

The Seeing Eye App does the exact same thing as Navigon and my Breeze. My
Breeze or Navigon I don't have to pay yearly for it's use or the upgrades
when they happen.

Yes, the Seeing Eye app is another option for people to try out and it's a
valid argument for people to have in regards to the yearly price if they
already have something that is a one time cost that does the same thing.

For me I can say it was a waist of 70 bucks since it does what I already
have.

Also, the maps that the Seeing Eye is using is the same ones that the
other companies use and it's also pulling info from foursquare which a lot
of apps seem to be doing these days as well. So from what I've seen in
looking at it from what I already have and use, it's not better, but the
same.

And your Breeze was how much? I believe $800 is about right? If you
buy the Seeing Eye app on a 3-year subscription, that means $800

6.15 which means I can renew my Seeing Eye subscription 6 times for
the price of the Breeze and at 3 years per renewal this means 18
years. How likely do you think it is you get 18 years of service out
of your Breeze without updates? I used to have a Trekker Maestro and
Humanware told me map updates were $100 back then. I wonder which
company is more greedy here and I also wonder whether the maps on
your Breeze will be as up-to-date in 3 years as the ones the Seeing Eye
app uses.

Anyhow, I think this discussion is pretty well exhausted. I doubt any
argument will change your hostile attitude towards Sendero and while
you and everybody else is of course entitled to their opinion, I
think if you did look at it objectively the numbers speak for themselves.

You are incorrect assuming that I bought a subscription. I downloaded
the app and when I found out how outrageous and costly it was, i
certainly did not buy a subscription. I immediately went to the
rating portion and told them how I feel. The app has been deleted
from my phone. By the way, the apps you refer to are a one time fee.
I've had my Navigon for 2 years and have only paid the cost of the
app. I works just fine. A few bucks every now and then to upgrade the
maps is reasonable, but certainly the price they want for a yearly
sub is highway robbery. I just don't have that kind of money anyway,
they wouldn't get it if I did and there are other good alternatives.
Actually, I'll stay with my Breeze and support a company that is not
blatantly greedy. I'm glad you find the app to be a good one because I
would hate for someone to spend that kind of money and not like it.

Hi Mary Anne,

Let me ask you one question: If you feel this way, why did you even
download and buy the one-year subscription to start with? It's not
like Sendero forced you to do so.

You could go and pay $59 for Navigon North America, then $15 or
whatever it is for BlindSquare for a total of $75 and have a
workable solution even though it wouldn't be as good as the Seeing Eye
app.
This totally reminds me about the uproar some people felt when
Sendero dared to charge $5 for their LookAround app a few years ago,
the outrage some people felt then I think was downright ridiculous
and while $70 is more than $5, like I said, don't buy it if you don't
want it.

I think it's a disgrace and a total rip off. Not even a trial? Even
so, it's too expensive and nothing but outright greediness. I've
already written this as a rating for the app, adding that it's
nothing less than a case of total greed, greed, greed, taking
advantage of blind people and stealing money out of their pockets.
Sixty-nine bucks a year, that is outrageous! What a cocky attitude
for Sendero to adopt. who do they think they are anyway? I couldn't
even rate it zero stars and I begrudgingly gave them one just to speak
my mind.

Subject: The Seeing Eye app, a quick test.

Hi all, I took the Seeing Eye GPS app for a quick walk around my
neighborhood to see how well it performed. I walked about one
mile, and took a different route back. It worked well, although
like most GPS apps it seemed to use a lot of battery, over twenty
percent in the
one mile walk.
The interface of the app is simple and easy to understand.
Entering an address is made easy because the state and city you
are in are already entered, so only the address number and street
need to be entered. If you are going to another city, however, you
will need to change that field. I started by searching for a point
of intrest and starting a route. The app uses voice over for most
of the announcements, but does have another voice that chimes in
occasionally. The directions were clear and given with ample lead
time. As I approached intersections it would announce the street
name and the intersection type, I. E. Fore way, and the street
direction.
Also, as I walked the app announced points of intrest as I passed by.
On the way back, I tried the route to home option, which opened a
drop down menu with various options including one that is poorly
labeled. My wife told me it said multi modal, which voice over
didn't understand, so I relabeled this button multi mode.
Over all I think this is a great start, but there are a few things
I'd like to see in the future. I'd like to see the ability to walk
a virtual route, as I was able to do with my human ware Trekker..
After taxes the one year subscription cost over seventy five dollars.
It sounds like a lot, but considering my old Trekker was fifteen
hundred dollars seven years ago, it doesn't seem too expensive.
If you figure it out, it comes to about twenty one cents a day for
the one year subscription. And only about thirteen cents a day
with the three year subscription, it seems reasonable to me.
