Subject: Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
Hi Mary,
If my memory is accurate, documentation never gets released at the same time
as does the OS. I'll bet within a month, we'll have an updated user guide
for IOS7.

Hi Cara,
It seems to me that the weakness of this release of iOS 7, not to mention
many many releases of android, is that the developers of the OS don't take
the time to document it and put that documentation out there for the
public. That would include all accessibility change documentation.
Somewhere somebody got the idea that nobody is willing to read
documentation, and that everybody prefers to mumble and bumble and grumble
around the OS to find out what is new. To me, that seems absurd. Okay. Not
everybody wants to read in-depth documentation. But for those of us who
do, it seems a shame that the opportunity is denied us.

Hi John and list.
While I agree completely, let me also offer the precept that iOS has
always been built on its ability to be easily discoverable.
-And for me at least, in iOS 7 so far, the level of what I consider to be
good discoverability is less than I'd like.
However, rather than go into details now, I'm holding my thoughts for a
while for exactly the reason John puts across in this note.
While I personally find this version of iOS way less discoverable I also
feel that not only is this just the first release of this incarnation of
iOS, but also I do think there needs to be more than a 24 hour period for
me to draw lasting conclusions about this, if for no other reason than
not all features are obvious to everyone at this point. So while I do
have my impressions, as we all do, I know there's a lot I'll be learning
as well.
So there's my point of view for the moment. :)
Thanks for all the great posts both from those who like / do not like iOS
7 so far.
That's part of what this list is for after all!
Thanks All and have a great night!…
Smiles,
Cara :)

I mean absolutely no offense, but you really have to read documentation
and understand what has changed before jumping to conclusions. I will
address your 5 points and explain what I mean.
1. In Accessibility settings, turn on, reduce motion. This will speed up
the speed of the phone with VoiceOver.
2. Yes, VoiceOver sounds are different. You are basing your
recommendation on personal opinion. Like anything else, you get used to
them. Change is not always comfortable for folks, but human beings tend
to adapt to change in the long run. I have already.
3. There is a separate control for silencing VoiceOver sounds
independently or having them remain on.
4. I think point 1 might help with the focus issues. Not sure though
because I haven’t experienced this myself.
5. Again, your opinion. There are a lot of changes to the interface that
make iOS 7 worth the upgrade. The handwriting feature, the 4-finger
double tap to start VO practice mode, the Control Center, the new layout
to Calendars and Reminders, the new SIRI voices and the expansion of what
you can do with SIRI, and several others. Learn about iOS 7 and use it
for a few weeks before jumping to conclusions in 24 hours of use.
It’s funny how I read posts like this with every iOS upgrade and Mac
upgrade. I know for a fact I still haven’t learned all of the new things
yet and am discovering changes every time I use my iPhone and iPad.

personally, i do not recommend updating to IOS7. i did on my iphone 5
and here is what i dislike about it. i know some may disagree and that
is fine. sometimes people attack you when you dare criticize the GREAT
APPLE!
problems i have in IOS7
1. slower. i have noticed on my iphone 5 voice over seems to run slower.
it seems to be more sluggish on speech and flicking through
applications. the phone also takes a half or more of a second to lock
when i click the lock button.
2. voice over sounds are different. on the ipad voice over, voice over
would always make a sound when you flick from different frames or areas
on the page. for example, if you are on an ipad and in the messages
application, try flicking from the message display area down into the
text message box where you type new messages. you do this by flicking
right. on the ipad voice over always made a unique noice indicating that
you have gone into a new area of the screen. the iphone voice over never
did this. well, on the new IOS 7 it now does. this annoying
3. the side switch no longer silences flicking sounds. on IOS 6 the
switch above the volume buttons would silence the clicks made on voice
over when one flicks left or right. on the new IOS7 this switch has no
effect on the special clicks and noises associated with voice over.
4. voice over looses focus. i have noticed, and perhaps it is just me,
that voice over sometimes looses focus on where you were last on the
screen. it is difficult to explain and perhaps i am the only one who has
this problem. but, sometimes when i am flicking right down a page, voice
over appears to jump back to the top or loose focus in some other
manner. voice over was always completely stable in IOS6 and i never had
this problem. nor did i ever have voice over read previously read aloud
text at the wrong time when such text was not being selected and should
not have been read. again, difficult to explain. but, i do not believe
voice over is as stable as it used to be
5. finally, i dont see any real feature enhancements. without any real
enhancements i wouldnt update. just my recommendation
