On the point about not using VO Calendar because it was designed with the VO user in mind, I have a different opinion. The App Store is full of calendar alternatives, and people choose a calendar app based on how well it works for them. I understand the sentiment to use off the shelf products and avoid over priced products for the blind, but sighted iPhone users don't restrict themselves to the native calendar app. I think we should work with Apple to make the calendar app easier to use, but I also think we should feel comfortable using any calendar app out there that best meets our needs.

Hi Kimber,

I agree the calendar is crucial and I totally understand your frustration.

You can get a sort of month view by backing out of the day view and flicking up
and down using heading navigation,

Also, On the day screen, you can use a three-finger swipe up and down to move
you through, and show you ranges of hours in your day so you can more easily
locate events. I.E. 9 AM to 5 PM etc. Doing this in landscape mode will show
you smaller increments (4 hours as opposed to 8) which may be easier to work
with.

Note though, that the three-finger flicks seem to be backward in landscape
mode. I'll check this further and write [email protected] if necessary.
Can you possibly verify this on your end as well?

As for flicking, I'd really recommend sliding your finger down the screen. it's
much faster.

Hope this helps!

Smiles,

Cara :)

It does help a bit. One thing I particularly dislike is having to see
my entire day laid out and having to flick through hour by hour to
find my appointment. I also miss having the month view and the ability
to list all my appointments.

I'm currently using vo calendar, but don't like that very much either
as the layout seems quite odd. I also dislike having to use a calendar
designed for vo users particularly. I should be able t o use the same
calendar as everyone else without performing all kinds of acrobatics
to do it.

Sorry. The calendar is a particular sore spot with me right now.

I'm wondering what exactly people are having trouble with in the new
calendar?

I do personally have things I'd like to see done a bit differently but
depending on what you're after, here are a few tips.

When you open the calendar, the day you have selected will automatically be
the one shown, so that you can very quickly look through everything you have
on that day.

the Today button at the bottom moves you to Today immediately, but you can
select from the current week (by default) from the days at the top of the
screen.

YOu can advance by week by doing a three-finger swipe from right to left and
move to the previous week by doing a three-finger swipe from left to right.

When you have an event at a particular time during the day, you can
double-tap on that event and it's details will come up and you can edit some
of these as well as bring up the Contact (if any) that invited you,
directly, so that you can immediately call / text / FaceTime etc them.

.

Does any of this help, or is all of this old news? :)

Hope you're having a great day and talk with y'all soon!

Smiles,

Cara :)

The new calendar format has been one of the biggest drawbacks for me
with ios7. My solution, and it isn't 100% satisfactory, was to
purchase VO Calendar and use it instead. The app is ten dollars and
the layout is a bit odd, but it's easier to manage than the native
calendar layout. Also, when you install it, it will ask if it can
access your calendar, Say ok and all your appointments will be copied
into the VO calendar.

Wish I had a better solution, but there you go.

Does anyone know how to get around the calendar issues? I like the fact
you
can add an event without hitting the done button for each step and don't
hit
it until you are done with alerts and everything but I can't go in and
read
the day's event or delete it. I really do try not to complain and just
go
with the flow but man I need my calendar!
