I don't see anything in Joseph's message that assumes she's running IOS
7. I can't test it now, since I have IOS 7 on my iPhone, but everything
he says seems to apply to IOS 6 as well.

Hi,
1. To shut down your iDevice press and hold the Sleep/Wake button (AKA
power
button) for about 4 seconds. You will get a prompt asking you if you
want to
shut down your device, go ahead and shut it down. It will take a few
seconds
to shut down.
Note: you can always swipe to the right or left to Cancel.
2. Leave the device off for about 30 seconds.
3. To turn your device on simply press and hold the power button for
about 5
seconds. Do not touch any other buttons as your iDevice will be turning
itself on. (After 5 seconds release the power button.)
4. If you are using a pass code, towards the end of the powering up
process
you will be asked to enter your password.
5. If you enter the correct password, you will end up on the lock screen.
Be absolutely sure you know your pass code before attempting this
process.

Subject: a really really dumb question
Hi,
I have an iPhone 5 and still running IOS 6. The last couple days, my
phone
has been acting weird, voice over saying things for no reason, siri not
working. I was thinking of power cycling it, but honestly, I've never
once
turned it off since I got it. with my 3GS it was such a pain because I
never
knew how long to hold the power button to be sure it was powering back
on,
since there was no audio feedback or vibration or anything to know it was
booting up.
So is there a reset I can try? or if I should power it off and back on,
approximately how long should I hold the power button and how long
till the
phones boots up?
