If you flick up or down, you'll hear the option to remove the item from the App Switcher. You can then just double tap to have it removed. This is the action item in the roter, and the default action is to open the item.

Ron, are you saying you can just double tap the name of the app you want to
close in the switcher and it will close it and move on to the next opened
app?

I must be one of the rare ones who do close all apps using App Switcher,
then. There are times When I want to free up all resources & have
everything
unloaded.

I find that if I want to clese an app, I open App Switcher, swipe right to
the app I want to close & flick up once to invoke "close." I can then just
double-tap it, and move to the next app to close, double-tap and so on. The
three-finger flick up, of course works and saves a gesture, but I've gotten
pretty used to setting to "close" then moving to & double-tapping the item
to close.

Maybe I am being stupid but when I see that home button with nothing
else
left on the screen I press the real button, on the bottom part of my
devices, never thought about pressing the one on screen.

I am getting used to the current setup but can't say it is my favorite
thing
in IOS 7. Some of the features that are supposed to be new, in fact
seem
like eye candy to me. I am on a 4S which may make some difference, but
no
immediate plans to upgrade today.

Hi,

All you said is true. But, that's not what I was getting at. I was
saying,
why have the home screen as an option when all other apps have been
close?
Just close the switcher automatically instead on displaying the
homescreen
in the app switcher.

Say you have 4 apps running at the same time, you might want to close
2 apps out of 4 apps, and move between the other two. Not only that,
you might want to run 1 or 2 apps, you can then use the Home screen on
app switcher and open another app instead of going on the home screen,
then back to the app switcher.
In fact, the visual representation for apps on app switcher is totally
different from iOS 6.

Very good point and I agree with you.

I wonder if this is a case of the switcher being different for VO

Will be exploring this with sighted friends.

Thanks and have a good night!

Hi,

But why have a visual representation at all when all other apps have
been closed? The app switcher in my opinion, should just close
automatically and go to the home screen since that is the only action
left to perform.

For example, I have 2 apps running. in the app switcher, I will see
the 2 apps plus the home screen. Cool. But, once I've close those 2
apps, there is absolutely no function left to the app switcher but to
close it and return to the home screen. So, why then force the user
to perform a gesture or, press the physical home button when its a
logical inevitability that that is the next action the user will do?
This looks to me like a hold over from IOS 6 that is no longer needed
in IOS 7. Remember, In IOS 6, although all apps were closed from the
switcher, there was still a large list of things a person could still
do. Play/pause music, lock/unlock orientation, etc. But this is no
longer the case in IOS 7 since all these features have been moved to
control center.

HI Ricardo,

Perhaps, but I think in this case it is analogous to the area on the
screen where you could tap to dismiss the switcher in iOS 6.

I think the Home option is an obvious way that sighted users can
dismiss the switcher, since there is no analogous gesture to the
scrub that I know of.

Not sure what this one looks like on the screen. Will need to ask
someone.

Interesting discussion!

Thanks,

Hi Cara,

I wondered, why even have home as an option, when you've cleared all
the other apps from the switcher? I mean, since you can't close
home, why bother having it as the last available option since
obviously, all the person can do is go to their home screen from
that point. lol. I think home shouldn't even be an option in the
app switcher. Its border line ridiculous.

I'm not sure what you mean by having to swipe through apps to
close them.
Once you do a three finger swipe up to close an app, the next app
gets focus, so you just need to do another three finger swipe up
to remove that app. Once you start doing the three finger swipe
up, or the double tap after changing the action item to remove,
you don't need to swipe to the next app in the App Switcher. This
is the same as how the App Switcher worked in IOS 6.

of iOS that you can lock orientation through the app
switcher. How
do you do that now in iOS7?
