Hi, I think that the StandScan Pro is worth the money. I haven’t tried the built-in lamps because i have the wrong battery pack and i didn’t need them where i ended up mounting the Standscan. I get almost as good results with Textgrabber and Standscan as i do with my flat bed scanner. I only wish i could get such fine results with freehand text, that way it really would be awesome. /Krister
