Hi Robin and Harry,

I seemed to have the same issue until I listened to the last Today in iOS
Podcast. Here a listener reported how he discovered that his Touch ID would
do the same as you describe, but that in the end he discovered it was user
error. I am not saying it totally is user error because there could be
something wrong with your specific hardware and of course you would just
have to bring the phone to an Apple Store to determine this.

Anyhow, this user said that he set up Touch ID by scanning the tip of his
thumb and that he also moved it around and so on. Like you he said it worked
at first and then it got worse, but he noticed that if he used a part of his
thumb a bit further down and not totally the fingertip that it worked much
much better. I have since deleted all my prints and rescanned my thumb using
2 of the 5 available prints because he also said that if you do it more it
works better which makes sense. Since I have done this and use more the pad
of my thumb half way between my fingertip and the knuckle I have had no
issues and it works very reliably and fast and, what's more, it continues to
work just as well a week later.

Regards,

Sieghard

My touch ID has never worked long for App Store but had always worked to
unlock iphone - till yesterday and now no more! So I'm obviously joining a
merry band!

Dear listers

I heard on a recent iFive podcast someone saying that this was an issue for
them and asking if anyone knew of a solution. It's the same for me too so I
was wondering if anyone on this list knew if this was likely to be fixed
with a firmware update. I can program in a finger or thumb and it works fine
for a day or so then it doesn't work - not even a small percentage of the
time - it just never works thereafter until I reprogram and then it works
100% of the time for a day or so.

Any comments welcomed, Robin.
