I recently bought a refurbished ipad mini and really like it for the
following reasons.
The speakers in it sound so much better than the speaker in my ipod touch
5th generation.
With it's larger battery, I get a lot of extra playtime over my ipod touch
5th generation.
I mainly use it as my main reading device.

For a visually impaired person, perhaps. For a totally blind one, none. I'm
going to post about my experiences to my blog soon, but long story short, I
just recently gave mine away because for me personally, the iPhone and iPad
were redundant. To each his own, but if it's an educational setting with a

Personally, I don't think the iPad offers anything the iPhone does not in
terms of apps. It has a better battery life, and some people prefer the
interface that some apps (like Mailor Safari) offer, but that's it. Oh, if
you use Mbraille, you can type with your fingers straight across the screen.
Low vision users often like the larger screen for viewing magnified images
or other low-vision apps, but for a blind person that does not matter.
