TextGrabber and Prizmo both do an excellent job on OCR. If you have a steady hand and a good understanding of how to ensure that the page is visible to the app, they can both be used free hand very successfully. Several of us have posted our results from these apps here to show what can be done. You need good lighting, and if, like me, you have no light perception, the Light Detector app is a must as well.
