Hello Teresa, For someone who's never had sight, the StandScan Pro makes the process of scanning with the iPhone so much easier as it provides the ideal conditions for taking a good picture. For the hassle it saves, it's well worth the money. After all, you get the whole bundle for less than $40 which is cheaper than any flatbed scanner.
