The touch cursor is if you're using a tablet, rather than a laptop or desktop. The invisible cursor is alive and well. I believe the iCloud control panel is downloaded onto your computer, not your phone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don & Cher" <[email protected]>

Not familiar with 'touch' cursor- is this a new name for the invisible
cursor? On the PC side, I was just getting graphics when trying to review
the screen- no help from JAWS cursor :(

I found today that on the phone, using the Groups button in Contacts still
lets you select which group you want to see- so by selecting my iPhone group
I'm a happy camper once again. . I was ready to have a fit last night when
I saw that my general contacts, my phone's contacts, my husband's contacts,
and an e-mail distribution list of over 200 people was all jumbled together
on my phone. I'll have to fiddle a bit, but this is now looking very
workable- I think :) Yeah!

Also when you say "adjust these settings in the iCloud Control Panel app "
are you meaning on the PC or somewhere on the device?

Thanks so very much, -
Cher

You're right, some of the settings in the iCloud Control Panel don't read
that well with JAWS, but it can be done. If you use JAWS 15, the touch
cursor is best in my view; otherwise the JAWS cursor should be used in
certain dialog boxes. Also, there is no way to adjust these settings other
than in the iCloud Control Panel app itself. They cannot be adjusted on the
iCloud website.

Since you've already turned syncing on, my suggestion would be to simply
delete any contacts or groups you don't want from the iCloud data set. Keep
in mind that any contacts which were synced have been removed from your
local data file in Outlook and placed into the iCloud data set. I think they
are placed in the Deleted Items folder. So, make sure you have a local copy
of them before removing them.

Hope this helps,

Grant

Hey Grant- Finally got it- but got more than I wanted. All my different
groups in Outlook were synced instead of just Cher's iPhone. Have to find
out how to undo/reverse this. Some controls in the iCloud control panel
seemed inaccessible with JAWS- is it easier to fiddle with all these
settings on icloud.com?

Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Hi Cher,

I Work is not required for contacts and calendar syncing, in fact there are
no native iWork apps for Windows at all. That article that you linked to in
your last message was talking about the requirements for syncing and editing
documents, spreadsheets and presentations. You may safely ignore that
requirement.

As for contacts, calendars and reminders sync, I am using Outlook 2013 and
have never used Outlook 2007 before with iCloud. However, Apple's own
knowledge base clearly states that Outlook 2007 should work fine, so I
believe the representative you spoke to was incorrect.

Try to follow all the troubleshooting steps linked to in these articles. Be
sure to double-check whether or not the iCloud add-in for Outlook is
disabled, because in my experience this is often the cause of broken
syncing.

Also check out this third party site for other tips and workarounds:

Not sure what screen reader you're using, but if it's JAWS, I'd be happy to
connect to JAWS Tandem with you and see if I can help at all (no guarantees,
though). You could also try contacting Apple telephone support and see if
they can advise you. Off the top of my head, though, I can't remember if
they would provide support for their Windows applications, but if you can
tie it in to a question about your iOS device, they might be able to provide
some suggestions.

Hey Grant- Had an Apple store appt. today- and asked about problem. Genius
said that an article stated that you must have Outlook 2010 or later to sync
contacts and perform other similar tasks. I missed the link to which you are
referring but have your messages and will check it out in case the Apple
tech is wrong. Are you using a later Outlook version?

Hi Cher, in terms of your contacts/calendars/reminders, iCloud is simply the
central repository for your data. The idea is to store your data in the
cloud then sync it to any devices that you want, such as to an iPhone, an
iPad, and perhaps Outlook on a PC. You can also collaborate with other
people by having, say, a shared calendar that everyone in your family can
add to or change whenever they want, and the results are pushed to
everyone's devices. It's a way to sync your data from device to device
without having to think about it or connect any wires. It has nothing to do
with iCloud backup. That is a totally separate function of iCloud.

I'm really sorry it's not working for you. Did you take a look at the
support article I sent you and follow all the troubleshooting steps in it?
When configured correctly, it's a beautiful thing.

The advantage of syncing your contacts with iCloud instead is no matter
where your iDevice is, you can get them back. If your only syncing them
with say Microsoft Outlook then you can't retrieve them until you get back
home. On the other hand I guess, if you rarely leave home then it probably
doesn't matter but I like having the iAdvantage.

Yes, my Outlook contacts are being stored under an iCloud folder on the PC;
and with my phone connected to the PC, iTunes reports that "your contacts
are being synced over the air through iCloud. Under Settings, cellular data,
contacts are turned on; and under iCloud the contacts are turned on but
iCloud backup is turned off as I do this on the PC . Re the Add-ins section
in the options dialog- can't locate this under Tools, Options in Outlook
2007.

Thought it would be nice to have contacts updated immediately, but am about
ready to give this up as a bad idea :(

Also in Outlook, make sure your contacts are stored in the iCloud data file
rather than a local data set. Press CTRL+Y to bring up the folder list, and
make sure they are stored under the "iCloud" section.

Also check under the Add-ins section in the options dialog to make sure the
iCloud add-in hasn't been disabled. Outlook occasionally disables this on
its own accord if it thinks that the add-in is slowing down Outlook too
much.

If you don't have wifi the best you could do is do it threw iTunes.
For iCloud wifi is required to make the changes rapidly between the
devices, but it can't happen if you have no wifi which basically means

Hello Mike,

The short answer to your question is:

The iCloud Control Panel is a piece of software that you must
download
from,
among other places, iCloud.com.

It allows you to have your iCloud info, such as Contacts, Reminders,
Appointments, (1) appear and be accessible from within the MS Outlook
application and (2) be synchronized via a cell connection, only.
Without having the iCloud Control Panel installed in Windows, you can
only synchronize your iCloud data via a USB connection through iTunes
or via a WiFi connection.

Hi

I'm setting up a new iPhone 5C running IOS 7.1.1 for my wife. I have
seen messages on this list, and read in the Getting Started with the
iPhone NBP book you must use iCloud with the iCloud Control Pannel to
sync contacts from the computer to the phone. I have set up the
phone to use iCloud,
but
I do not have the iCloud Control Pannel. But when I was in the phone
settings and on the Info tab of iTunes 11.2, there is a setting to
sync contacts. So I checked it and then synced the phone. After
syncing, it appears that all of the Outlook contacts are now on the
phone. Can anyone clarify?
