The keyboard case I have is divided in to two halves. The lower half lays
flat on a table top and holds the QWERTY typing keys. These are real keys
and not a bubble or blister kind of keys. They are more like what you would
find on a netbook computer. The case is as wide as the length of the
iDevice your going to use with it. The cases are sold to mate with specific
iPads. I have an iPad Air so the case made for it is about the size of a
netbook computer.
The top half of the case holds the iPad with the longest side going from
left to right. The iPad is placed in the holder bottom edge in first and
pressed backward in to the retainers at the top. This holds the iPad
securely in place. The home button is to the right with the power button in
the top left-hand corner and the volume buttons on the back in the top
left-hand corner. The lightning connector connects on the right side right
in the middle between the speaker and the microphone. In other words, the
iPad Air looks pretty much like an iPhone on steroids. LOL!
When the iPad is in the holder, you can adjust the tilt of the screen to any
one of three positions. In my case, these are magnets built in to the
bottom of the holder. The iPad mates with it's built in keyboard via
Bluetooth. No power switch to bother with. When the bottom edge is set to
one of it's 3 positions the keyboard is activated automatically and is
disconnected when the holder is showing you the screen like a laptop would
and is disconnected from the typing keys when you lift up the iPad from the
base and lay it flat on it's back on top of the typing keys. This is a very
stable way to use the iPad when the QWERTY keyboard is not needed when your
using the on screen keyboard.
In summary, you get a full QWERTY keyboard that is great when your typing a
report or doing your email. If your playing a game where the built in
keyboard is not required you can lay your iPad on it's back with the back of
the case resting on the typing keys. The case is made in such a way that it
does not harm the typing keys and there is port on the back right side to
plug in the supplied USB cable to recharge the typing keyboard. I can get 2
to 3 weeks of use out of the keyboard before I need to recharge it again but
I get a very lot of email averaging over a thousand messages a day.
What to look for when buying a keyboard case. You want a case with solid
feeling typing keys Bubble or blister keys as found on some are stiff and
require more force to depress. The reason for buying a keyboard case is to
permit easy typing and to convert your iPad into a laptop. You want the
keys to be comfortable and easy to use. This will depend on which iPad you
have because the keyboard will only be as wide as the screen or I should say
the frame of your iPad. The iPad Air in the keyboard case measures at it's
widest, 9.5 inches. From front to back, 7 inches. It is about a half inch
thick.
This is with the case closed and ready to transport.QWERTY keyboard is 10
inches wide.

Alan

Hi,
I'm curious about these keyboard covers or cases for iPads and iPad Minis.
How exactly is the keyboard incorporated into the case? I keep imagining a
keyboard hardware over the lower part of the screen, but this can't be the
case, can it? Is the keyboard on the inside of the flap that covers the
screen when closed? Doesn't this run the risk of damaging the screen?
Thanks in advance for an explanation. Keith

This is actually a good point if you plan to use the mini as a sort of
laptop. Because of the larger size, the keyboard covers you can get for them
are very nice because they can accomidate a larger keyboard that are usually
very comfortable to type on just like a laptop. In this sense, the mini
works very well and so does the regular full size iPad.

Hi,
I just came back from a trip to Las Vegas where I left my Macbook pro
behind, and brought my iPad mini with me. I have a logitech folio keyboard
case for it. I only use the keyboard when typing not so much for
navigating. This setup worked extremely well for me. For starters, the
battery life. It was nice going 3 days on a single charge, and thats after
hard use. Video streaming, ebook reading, music streaming, web browsing,
etc. During that same time, I was recharging my iPhone sometimes twice a
day.
As far as the gestures go, since the screen is larger, some might feel their
gestures need to be larger as well. This is definitely not the case. moving
your finger left, right, up or down is more than enough to do the trick for
navigating on an iPad.
Thanks.

Hi everyone. Long ago i had an IPad first generation and even an IPad 2nd
generation but we never became friends. Every time i tried to do a swiping
gesture, the ipad thought i wanted to go down a row or something. Now i’m
not good at going in totally streight lines so that may likely have caused
this issue, so i sold the pads. Now however i’m thinking of getting myself
one of these Mini retina thingimajigs, but i’m also thinking why would i
want an ipad in the first place, so that’s the question i ask you. What if
anything do you iphone and ipad owners use one device for and not the
other? What works better on a pad then on a phone or vice versa? Is a Mini
really easier to navigate than an Air or the like?
Thanks for any answer.
