I don't think the screen locks when you're using google Maps. I touch
the screen when using it to get more information on where I am, the next
direction and how close I am to my destination. When my wife uses it,
who's sighted, she just leaves it on her lap while she's driving so she
can refer to the route on the screen.
Yes there is a walking or pedestrian mode. Early in the process, when
you're selecting your route, there should be some tabs at the top, and
you can choose between driving, walking and public transit.
I'm glad I could help.

Thanks for taking the time to help me, I tried it for the first time this

It is pretty impressive to say the least!
Do you know if the screen locks when you are on a route?
The phone is in my pocket but if I turn it up, I can hear it easily. Caused
some confusion on the bus I think :-)
Is there a walking mode as well?

Subject: Re: Google MAPS
Yes, it's accessible. I haven't used the Maps app from Apple in quite a while,
so I'm not sure what advantages you have in Google Maps over the Maps app from
Apple.
When I originally looked at the Maps app from Apple, I couldn't enter a
destination except by address. With Google Maps, I can just type the name of a
location and then select the one I want from a list. I also save popular
destinations to my profile and then I can just select them from there. I assume
Apple Maps has these features, and it was just user ignorance on my part.
Google Maps will also store your route locally on your phone. You'll need an
internet connection to download it originally, but if you end up driving
through an area with no coverage, as I did last weekend, you still get turn by
turn directions. I'm not sure if Apple Maps has this feature or not.
Finally, I just find Google Maps to have a simpler more intuitive interface.
Again, that could just be what I'm used to though, and it's definitely
subjective.
Both apps are free, so there's no issue with having both on your phone and
giving each a try.

Hi friends,
A friend told me about Google MAPS which is a free application for the
IPhone.
Is it accessible and does it have any advantages over the Apple MAPS
application please?
