Actually, I've had exactly the same thing happen with IOS 7. I, too, had to
re-start the phone in order to get the keyboard back. It hasn't happened in
quite a while and I hope I haven't jinxed my phone by saying that. I'm
still running 7..1.2

Subject: IOS 8.0.2: Onscreen Keyboard won't pop up

    Hi,

I first noticed this in the Read2Go app when I attempted to search for a
book. On my 5S running IOS 8.0.2, when I double-tapped on the text field to
enter a book title, the onscreen keyboard didn't pop up. I wasn't using a
bluetooth keyboard at the time, nor was my BrailleNote Apex turned on and
connected in terminal mode. Thinking this might be a Read2Go problem, I
opened Contacts and tried to open the search field; again, no onscreen
keyboard. Next I went into the White and Yellow Pages to search for a local
business. Still no onscreen keyboard when attempting to search.

The only way I could get things back to normal was to restart my phone.
Anybody seen this one?

Tom
