I appreciate all posts. Obviously, my choice would be to take it back to the Apple store and let them fix it for me. However, transportation is extremely difficult and this store was quite far away where some friends live whom we do not see often. There is no sighted help, so the best thing for me wss to try and resolve this myself. I have tried several more times through iTunes to restore the phone. It tells me the phone is in recovery mode and that I have to restore it in order to use it, but each time it returns an error code of 17.
I am trying to contact Apple, but thought I'd start here because there are many incredibly smart folks here and usually there is an idea or two.
