Hi Alan,

Yes, if you use 5 or 6 different WiFi networks then that could be inconvenient.
I mostly use my Home WiFi and my work WiFi and a couple of times a year I visit
my parents and may use theirs or that of a friend. I don't find entering 3 or 4
WiFi passwords very inconvenient, but everybody is different and for some it
may be a daunting task knowing they have to reconnect to even just their own
home WiFi. In this case removing all apps from the app switcher and at least
shutting down the phone for 30 seconds and turning it back on is a good
compromise. I know a couple people here said they don't even close out their
apps when they upgrade. All I can say here is to each their own. I have heard a
lot of stories where people upgraded without doing any of the recommended
things and they end up with horrible battery life, unexpected crashes or other
weird inconsistancies. I am just not prepared to risk that especially since
doing even the Reset all Network settings at best takes 2 or 3 minutes.

Regards,
Sieghard

Sieghard, I assume that resetting network settings will also cause you to lose
all wi-fi password settings for any previous networks you've logged on to. If
one moves around a lot to many different wi-fi networks, losing this can be a
major inconvenience. Obviously, the cost of this inconvenience must be weighed
against any benefit this network reset offers when upgrading.

Subject: RE: iOS 8.1.1 has been released

Hi Christina and Eden,

The least one should do before an update is to remove all apps from the app
switcher and to turn off the phone, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on.
This is just good practice because an iPhone which has not been rebooted for a
long time can have stuff in memory and so on which may negatively impact an iOS
update. Doing a Reset all Network Settings in Settings, General, Reset does in
fact not delete any networks, but it will as the name indicates "reset" all
network modems to factory settings and it will delete your WiFi password which
means after you reboot the phone you have to go to Settings, WiFi and reconnect
to your WiFi. However, it will also clear out anything which potentially could
effect an update from memory and it is something some people who know a thing
about iOS recommend. It's not strictly necessary, but while I have often read
on the list how people had problems where an update didn't complete or really
messed up the phone, I have never in 5 years had a single problem with an
update not going perfectly smooth and I do follow my own advice here.

Regards,
sieghard

Yes, i don't want to do any of these things either, I am too new at this to
want to be resetting networks and stuff, and my bf has no clue about this stuff
as he does not own an IDevice, but he is sighted.
