Another thing you could try is adding a file called Vncviewer in your home directory and placing the following in it:
*grabKeyboard: false This prevents vncviewer from calling XtGrabKeyboard(). On modern window managers, the call to XtGrabKeyboard() doesn't appear to be necessary, since vncviewer uses the window manager root properties to notify it that the vncviewer window should be treated as a full-screen window.
