Hi. Not sure if you're still having this issue, but the latest pre-release build has an enhanced key grab/ungrab feature, and it should be straightforward now to implement an option for doing a particular sequence of mouse commands to ungrab the keyboard. Open to suggestions as to what that magic sequence should be, if you still think it's worthwhile.
