It didn't work on Windows. It also didn't work on this Linux version that I have in my department. GNU Emacs 22.2.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars) of 2008-05-07 on milo So, something more is needed. But I am going to merge your current changes anyway.
