VLAN support for HiperSockets in a Linux environment Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANS), IEEE standard 802.1q, is being offered for HiperSockets in a Linux on zSeries environment. VLANs can reduce overhead by allowing networks to be organized by traffic patterns rather than physical location. This enhancement permits traffic flow on a VLAN connection both over HiperSockets and between HiperSockets and an OSA-Express GbE, 1000BASE-T Ethernet, or Fast Ethernet, or Fast Ethernet feature. >From the PROFILE TCPIP for a z/vm stack: DEVICE DEV3A00 HIPERS 3A00 LINK HSISERV1 QDIOIP DEV3A00 MTU 0 VLAN 1 VLAN is an option as specified in the VM TCP/IP Planning and Customization 510 reference for the LINK statement. >From the console log of that machine: TCPIPLA : DTCRUN1011I Running "TCPIP" TCPIPLA : DTCTCP001I z/VM TCP/IP Level 510 TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCOSD080I HIPERS initializing: TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI385I Device DEV3A00: TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI386I Type: HIPERS, Status: Not started TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI387I Envelope queue size: 0 TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI388I Address: 3A00 TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCQDI001I QDIO device DEV3A00 device number 3A02: TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCQDI007I Enabled for QDIO data transfers TCPIPLA : ***** 10/18/05 ***** TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCOSD308E VLAN not supported for device DEV3A00 TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCOSD082E HIPERS shutting down: TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI385I Device DEV3A00: TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI386I Type: HIPERS, Status: Ready TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI387I Envelope queue size: 0 TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCPRI388I Address: 3A00 TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCQDI001I QDIO device DEV3A00 device number 3A02: TCPIPLA : 11:57:35 DTCQDI007I Disable for QDIO data transfers David -----Original Message----- From: VM/ESA and z/VM Discussions on behalf of Alan Altmark Sent: Tue 10/18/2005 11:23 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: tcpip 510 hipersocket and vlan On Monday, 10/17/2005 at 04:19 AST, David Kreuter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi: Do real hipersockets support VLANs on VM TCPIP 510?
