VLAN support for HiperSockets in a Linux environment
Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANS), IEEE standard 802.1q, is being offered for
HiperSockets in a Linux on zSeries environment. VLANs can reduce overhead by
allowing
networks to be organized by traffic patterns rather than physical location.
This enhancement
permits traffic flow on a VLAN connection both over HiperSockets and between
HiperSockets
and an OSA-Express GbE, 1000BASE-T Ethernet, or Fast Ethernet, or Fast Ethernet
feature.

DEVICE DEV3A00 HIPERS 3A00
LINK HSISERV1 QDIOIP DEV3A00 MTU 0 VLAN 1

VLAN is an option as specified in the VM TCP/IP Planning and Customization 510
reference for the LINK statement.

No, Hipersockets do not support VLANs. (A virtual Hipersocket should not
support VLANs, either!)
