yet the 510 VM TCPIP Reference predates z9 technology and makes no reference to 
cpu type. In any case maybe the DTCOSD308E needs to be changed to have a better 
reason why you failed.

You said you were on a z800.  VLAN-capable HiperSockets is limited to 
System z9-109.

z/VM's virtual HiperSockets do not support VLAN, even when running on a 
System z9-109.
