Hello Alan,

It was in a virtual machine. We already opened a PMR at IBM.

Let me see if I understand correctly, CP would check the config at IPL?
What does CP check in this case? The hardware type (3390-3), the
machinetype at the remote end (either HDS or EMC dasd), the ESCON director?
I guess if CP would see the make of the remote hardware we would get an
error but if it just senses a 3390 or an ESCON director it would see the
same hardware. Even when it is in fact a different device. True? Or does CP
check more parameters, such as a hardware serial number?

The connection was made to a 3390-3 in both cases, three channels to EMC-
dasd and 1 channel to HDS-dasd, both connected through an ESCON director.
We had to activate a new IOCDS using a POR so VM has been IPLled afer the
change. What would CP see in that case? We haven't got any messages at IPL
that would point to an error.

Regards, Berry.
