I guess my libraries are more slot-dependent than yours -- if they're
shared between mainframe and non-mainframe systems, the slot numbers
matter a lot more (the non-mainframe systems tend to refer to volumes by
slot number). I absolutely need to know what is in what slot, reliably,
every time. I've been pretty fortunate in not experiencing very many
dropped cartridges (regular PM is a good thing), and so far, the drives
have been pretty good about not misfiring. I've only had one
auto-inventory this year, so I guess I'm doing better than average. 

I guess we have differing usage patterns. I find the auto-inventory
useful. I can see where it would retard things in a different setup, but
hey, that's why there's a enable/disable feature, right?
