Brian,

The instructional tape was good.  One attaches the tape drive, opens the ATL
and puts the tape into the drive.

It is a lot harder to visualize how things would function from just the
manuals without hands on the equipment.  You did a wonderful job.  Thank you
for being so thorough.  I would NEVER have gotten this far without your
notes.

The "3494 ATL Operator Guide" (GA32-0449) manual explains how to set up a
drive in the ATL as a standalone device and manually mount tapes via
Library Manager console.  The notes I left for you refer to pages 88-89+,
and 231-235.
