I believe the AST-based pipe fixes will break threads, though I don't know how well
they were working anyway. Shall we just throw them in and hope to sort out the thread
stuff by 5.8? I believe what needs to be done eventually is that each sys$dclast call
needs to be replaced with thread initiation when building with threads enabled, but I
haven't the slightest idea what "thread initiation" looks like in Perl code, much less
in Perl-flavored C.
