I share that not-amusedness. I have been told both one-to-one (Tech roundtable
at OpenVMS boot camp) and by speakers that they will indeed fix this. Their
attention had largely been on making it all run on Itanium. In the meantime,
we're sticking with 1.3

(The "STREAM_LF" requirement was the result of Apache 2.0 mapping files into
memory for greater speed; this doesn't work with files with as much embedded
metadata as non STM_LF files have. So HP needs to conditionalize that whole
process and include RMS reads on the VMS version. Which, incidentally, is
probably not going to be great for performance.)

My boss needed sources (to port an Rdb plugin for PHP), and although the
aren't up on the HP web site yet (because they haven't gotten around to
packaging them nicely), they put them up for temporary FTP for him. So
if somebody wants to do this project, they could write to HP.

I've had very good interactions with Rick Barry on SWS; if you want to try
writing him, it's firstname dot lastname @ hp dot com
