The path was specified by another emailer (person)... LOL I have TridiaVNC installed. and we use Novell on the Win98 machines... for now they are walking the 3 blocks over to this building to reboot when they deliver the greenbar reports.

While I'm not sure, I doubt that will work since most networks require you to login.... Which is precisely what you're having to do. If yours doesn't require you to login, then I would suggest really thinking about the security implications. If you install the application and service locally, then I would guess it will work. Also, I notice that you didn't use the double quotes in the value of the key - as in: ""C:\PROGRAM FILES\ORL\VNC\WINVNC.EXE" -service" - Ricardo -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Mary Stickney Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 12:03 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Installing VNC as a service on w98 yes it says it installed as a service when you do what you suggested. Start button || Run... || winvnc.exe -install and ''voila'', WinVNC installed as a service. (Not installed in Start folder but on registry HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\.... \RUNSERVICES\WinVNC="C:\\WUTIL\\NETWORK\\Tightvnc\\WinVNC.EXE -service") but it won't run like one. you still have to log in first. am still working on forcing it to work -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Juan Belmonte Moreno Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 2:40 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Installing VNC as a service on w98 Hi friends; I'm sorry but service mode in W98SE DOES allow log on remotely. Start button || Run... || winvnc.exe -install and ''voila'', WinVNC installed as a service. (Not installed in Start folder but on registry HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\.... \RUNSERVICES\WinVNC="C:\\WUTIL\\NETWORK\\Tightvnc\\WinVNC.EXE -service") The only ''problem'' (it's no problem but it's behaviour): When you start WinVNC (app mode) asks you for password and options. When WinVNC starts itself in service mode, ASKS YOU AGAIN!! When WinVNC it's launched as service, have a cofiguration profile at HKEY_LOCALMACHINE but when someone logs on (or simply launched as Aplication) it's config it's at HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Example: If you install WinVNC as above and confirgure (password, optiopns...) and display 0; reboot. BEFORE LOG ON, your configure same as above but display 6, an then log on. To log on this machine you need to point to display 6 but after logon, client loses link and then reconect but display 0 and works 100%. Strange Behaviour but EXPLANABLE and easy understand. I hope this helps someone Regards Juan Belmonte _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
