Good Afternoon Sean,
Boy, your qualifications blow me out of the water! Well, here goes
anyhow...
You most certainly should be able to run it on a win2K machine!! I am not
certain why the password isn't saved, but I had trouble figuring that out
on my Win2000 machines until I got a regedit file done to make all the
Win2k user machines the same. (I am the only one that accesses them, and
that is for user support.)
First of all, make certain VNC is installed as a service. Go to
start, programs, VNC, Administrative tools, and choose "Install as
service". Then from the same folder choose "Run service helper". (I am
not even sure what the service helper does, but it seemed to smooth out a
bug or two when I first started playing with this a year ago.)
Now that that is done, go to the Icon in the sys tray and Rt. click
and choose properties. Enter your password. (This is the service
password.)
Then go to the sys tray again and choose "Close VNC". Go to the
start menu, programs, VNC, and choose "Run VNC (App. Mode)", This is VNC
running as an app. Rt. click the sys tray icon and choose properties
again. Enter the password for the app mode. (I would think the same one
for the sake of simplicity.) Restart the machine and see if VNC is running
as a service. If it is, the password you set should be in the registry and
working.
Let me know how you make out.
PS. I would like to bounce a couple of windows questions off of you
tomorrow, if you don't mind.
Have a Good Day,
Michael L.

I can not log on to my VNC server unless it is logged in. I go to check
for
a default password ever time i login and it is blank. I set the password
log off and log back on and the password is blank again. Like it never
retains the password. This is on a windows 2000 professional
machine.choose
Should be able to run VNC as a service on a windows 2000 professional
machine?
