The HKCU is not loaded when a user isn't logged on so that will do you no
good.  Again I ask:

This sounds like a symptom of changing the password and not using the
"Default Properties" box to do it.  Have you tried an old password to see if
it works?

You have also not included anything from the log.  Are there any errors
there?
