And most times this is true. Without pointing out the documentation you are setting yourself up to repeat it all in little bits as a person starts using VNC. Pointing a user to the documentation (if they haven't read it) most likely does them more good than giving them the answer on the list. > This is not really helpful to someone who may be intimidated with the > technology and may have tried in vain to find the relevant information > in the FAQs, etc. Asking questions *based on the documentation* to clarify things are more likely to generate a response. If you just say "what port numbers does VNC use?" I'm going to assume you have never looked at the documentation. And if you ask a question I answered two days ago, I'm going to assume you didn't read the documentation and didn't search the archives. > I believe that the list is for *all* users - from newbie through > advanced developer - and should be a place that we can turn to for > help, not lectures about our lack of ability. I agree this list is for all users. Just don't come here expecting someone to hold your hand without putting forth some effort of your own. > Having said that, it is important to read the introductory FAQs to help > get acquainted with the technology. As above, questions to *clarify* the documentation can just help the documentation get better. -- William Hooper _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
