Searching the MS knowledge base only brought up the following article
titled
Windows 95 Can Access Up to Two GB of RAM

It does say 95 but 98 should have the same limit. Before upgrading to 2k
I was using 98 with 1gig of physical ram for about 6months without
problem.

You should find this from the M$-knowledge-base as well. At least, I
