Assuming the dsl ip does not change too frequently, you can get the ip
various ways. If, your dsl modem connects directly to your PC you may use
winipcfg under windows 9x, Start--> Run--> Type "winipcfg" --> click ok.
Then select the correct interface and you should be there.

Use ipconfig from the command line in NT/2K/XP. Start--> Run--> Type "cmd"
and click OK. Then type "ipconfig" and hit enter, you should see your
interfaces. One should be apparent to be the IP you need.

Under 2K/XP you can configure your nic to display on the taskbar. Click on
the icon and then the support tab.

A more universal method, if you are behind a hardware firewall or directly
connected, is to go to www.myipaddress.com, and it will display your IP.

And if you using a firewall/nat box, make sure your port forwarding is
configured correctly for your device. Its hard to define that unless you
offer the model of the device you have.

I strongly recommend a hardware or *nix firewall box with all persistent
Internet connections, especially fast ones. This is in addition to a
software/application firewall like ZoneAlarm, Norton, McAfee or BlackIce.
ZoneAlarm is nice for home use, since a free version is available. It does
not have many extras, but if you have AV, it will to the job. I just
installed some linksys firewalls for my parents, and they have single PCs.
I rest easier knowing that Windows isn't directly touching the Net.

Good luck!
