I've had some success using zebedee as well, but only for certain users
(read "through certain ISP's"). For instance, I have set up users to
connect using zebedee out of the box quite quickly using Roadrunner's
"one-way" product (modem out, cable in) but their "two-way" product
(cable in, cable out) does not allow a zebedee connection.
This leads me to believe it's a firewalling issue at the ISP. I've spoken
with the ISP about this a few times asking that they make the 2-way firewall
identical to the 1-way firewall at the default zebedee port (I specified the port
I wanted them to look at) and finally was flatly told by the Supervisor there that
Roadrunner does not support tunneling and that they would NOT be supportive in
this regard. As a matter of fact, for a moment I thought they were going to
cancel my subscription to their service for pushing to get this change made.
Since then, I've been hunting around trying different SSH products without success
so I'm not holding out much hope that I'm gonna get a secure tunnel using any SSH
product
through Roadrunner. The same goes for Qwest, too. Except for satellite, that's the
limit of the high-speed internet market for me.
I'm looking for agreement/disagreement regarding my conclusion that I appear to be
dealing with a firewalling issue with the ISP. If agreement, am I doomed in my
effort to get a secure tunnel working? If disagreement, what did I miss?
