I am looking for ways to move/filter mail based on who is accessing the
server.

Is the SMTP communication between a client like Outlook Express and the
VOPMail server fundamentally different from that of another mail server
talking to VOPMail?

Is it the same

helo xxx.com
mail from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
rcpt to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
data:
as;lkfasdkfjasdfasdf
.

for both? Do clients use another statement to identify themselves besides
something like:

X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000

I am looking to find a way to only allow my customers to directly hit my
main machine and all other connections be "encouraged" to go through my
relay/virus scanner (which has the lower MX number).

Also, it seems some viruses MUST take the smtp server information from the
client and then use it when doing their broadcast because they do in fact go
directly to the server and do not do an MX lookup.
