maybe their RBL is unreachable and that is the hang you are seeing on the helo? that is the time that RBL is checked I think. I just telneted to smtp-gw-4.msn.com it responds with an SMTP greeting, but as soon as I enter the helo command it doesn't respond. It doesn't disconnect, it just doesn't respond.
