There is not the slightest evidence for that, and absolutely no motivation or method by which he might have profited from a non-working cell. He could not even make a profit from a cell that did work! Cravens and others confirmed that it worked, in multiple tests, with better instruments. Unfortunately they did not publish these results. I think Patterson did not want them to publish. - Jed
