Well, based on the last message on the "big surprise", it looks like the
MFMP announcement could indeed relate to the glow-stick experiment which
Alan Goldwater was running.

That is a surprise to me, but I had been following it with interest.

I suppose we will know soon what is going on, but if it helps to raise the
expectation level, I can add a few relevant details.

1) The results of Alan's glow stick testing had not been spectacular for
several days - in fact the null side was usually hotter than the active side
(but there was an explanation for that).

2) Results improved with on/off pulsation

3) There did appear to be some radioactivity, however, the signal seemed to
correlate with the times when the null side was hotter than the active side
but the correlation was not large

Side note: in looking back on it, this could mean that the radioactivity
correlated to UDD formation, which is apparently endothermic

4) The experiment was ended with an attempt to use sound input. Alan is an
expert on sound systems but there were no indications that this was
successful. He was planning on moving onto a new phase.

5) Then the live feed stopped and the assumption was that Alan was starting
the next round of experiments.

6) The interesting thing, looking back, is that the next round was to use
deuterium, instead of protium.

It would be huge news if in fact - the simple switch from hydrogen to
deuterium resulted in what was apparently 5 hours of self-sustain mode (at
1100-1200 C). This would be the equivalent of about 6 kW-hrs of infinite
overunity. It would be a game changer.

That would make anyone very, very happy. This is believable, whereas nothing
from Rossi can be taken seriously.

The problem with this scenario is that the LiAlD which was apparently used
was sent to MFMP by Brian Ahern, but Brian himself had failed to see
anything with it in his own testing. But one big difference is that he did
not add it to fuel which had previously been exposed to hydrogen loading.
That could be the key.

I guess we will see tomorrow if this is what happened. If it is, it will add
greatly to our understanding and it will mean that deuterium is now looking
like the savior of the field... and the cookbook will show that after you
run with hydrogen for a while, you switch to deuterium.

BTW - Rossi on many occasions has said he does not use deuterium, and in
fact he once said that deuterium quenched his reaction !

This would mean that the Rossi effect is different from this new effect. If
so - let's toast to Alan and to MFMP and to open-sourcing. This kind of
thing probably does not happen without open-sourcing. It is premature to
call it the Goldwater effect, since the mystery is still in full effect for
whatever strange reason.
