It should be noted that the Nickel-boron electroless nickel process
would have obvious benefits for LENR.
The fusion reaction of n+11B to 4He(a, p)7Li has an extremely high cross
section.
Nickel-boron coatings can result in the boron content being as high as
10%. In any situation where a real neutron, or faux-n is possible, that
would offer an extreme advantage for not only excess heat - but also
detectability.
The secondary gammas from the reaction would stand out like the
proverbial red flag to el toro...

Some more wild speculations from a non-specialist on how one (anyone
basically) could electroplate a dielectric with a metal.
The simplest way is to first apply a thin layer of electroless nickel.
