Ah ha. According to today's Atlanta Journal there are ~10 GW of potential offshore wind in Georgia. See: http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/stories/2008/11/02/equaled_1102.html I wasn't aware of that. My info. is from an old "wind atlas" published by the DoE some years ago that covers only wind on land. Offshore wind had barely begun when it was compiled. Offshore is inherently better in many ways, mainly because the wind is steadier and more frequent offshore. In the best land locations annual average performance is around ~30% of nameplate, whereas offshore it can be ~40%. - Jed
