An on-board electrolyser can even deliver hydrogen at high pressure, by using a Pd cathode and driving the hydrogen out the back side of the cathode. Commercial electrolysers that use this technique save money and energy on compression costs. Also, hydrogen which goes through a Pd "filter" comes out very pure and dry.
