Rydberg atoms are known to become elongated, but do they increase in volume?
There is even the possibility that the mass as a whole could shrink in volume
prior to the pop. See:

There does indeed seem to be something electromagnetic going on. But there is
an important energy balance problem that we have little insight into that seems
to go beyond anything electromagnetic. Something is doing a lot of work.
According to someone in the video you linked to earlier, they were able to run
the Sabori model without refueling until a part broke and needed to be fixed.
Either this is an elaborate hoax, or people are profoundly mistaken about the
energy input, or there is a small amount of fuel yielding a lot of work.
Assuming there is no hoax or huge error, the most likely explanation is some
kind of nuclear effect, and I can only imagine that would bring the ideal gas
law into play.
