This is a good point.  Even if all is copacetic with the E-Cat (in contrast
to the test), this points to a potential point of failure if hydrogen is
important to the reaction.

I do not think alumina would be considered a metal.  Perhaps it is a
ceramic.  Here is one form of alumina:

I suspect it is highly dielectric and conducts almost nothing.  I do not
think it would act as a Faraday cage.
