And you are correct to think that, because the counter in your car starts
from 0000000! So when it shows a number, like say 1231, it means that 1231
miles/km/whatever have been completed! However, in the calendar system, the
year counter starts from 1A.D. (there is no year 0) so, when we are at year
1231, it means that 1230 years have passed since the birth of christ (well,
since year 1A.D.)
And that's all.
