Fished the Yak today with Gregg Mindt and we had a great day. Only
hooked three fish between the two of us, but we learned a new stretch of
river and saw eagles and ospreys everywhere. The river was way high, so
we had to fish it's upper sections. The lower canyon was muddy and too
high for fishing. Had luck with a Copper John fished behind a big,
black, heavily weighted girdle bug. In addition, there was a short
sporadic Squwalla (sp?) hatch. The smaller, olive-gray stoneflies
buzzed around a bit, bringing a few risers up. I nailed a nice one by
feeding him a #12 olive stimulator right over his nose with a downstream
presentation. Textbook. Give it a shot. Jeff Hale
