Jim-- I have made four trips down the Rogue, '95-'98. I floated
from Galice to the takeout about a days float down from Agness. I've
used a 9' 6'' Powell 6 wt. with both floating and sink tip lines. I
prefer the floating. Silver Hilton has been the most consistently
productive fly, both from the boat and from shore. The majority of
takes from shore occur at the bottom of the drift just as the fly begins
to rise. For the most part we caught "half-pounders" in the 14" - 15"
range with an occasional 17"-18". Each year someone in our party has
tied into one or two larger steelhead and salmon. I suggest taking both
the 6wt. and the 8wt., but expect to use the 6. Which section of the
Rogue will you be floating and which guide service will you use?
Regards, Paul
