It was a nice day for a boat ride on the Sound so I decided to check out the
SRC's. While the weather was great the catching was slow. Two fish were
brought to the boat. One about 10" and the other around 18". I did see a
few black mouth jumping in the tidal flow. They were significantly larger
than the SRC jumping in the same area. They appeared to be chasing down the
smolts in this particular estuary. Both fish were caught on chartreuse and
white clousers. I also tried a red and white spoon fly and had lots of
follows. However, I couldn't get a take. In the past few weeks I've hooked
several fish with this fly without landing a one. The spoon fly creates
quite a commotion among the fish and merits more trial and experimentation.
