I don't own an Okuma. I now own 3 Medalists (two 1592 1/2 and one 1598).
I bought the 1595 1/2 on the advise of folks on this list when my STH gave
up on me in the middle of a fishing trip. I've never been sorry that I bought
the Medalist. I don't think they are going to wear out. And at the price, no
need to buy spare spools...just buy another reel.

On the down side. they don't have a great drag. Since I only want a drag to
keep the spool from over running this isn't a problem for me. They are also a
bit heavy....not a problem on a 10 ft 8 weight or a 13 ft 8 weight. I've
used the
1595 1/2 a year and have had several good fish on it and it did fine. The
foot
of the reel is a bit heavy so you may have to file it down a bit to get it
to fit the
reel seat on some rods.

I've had two STH's give up at very unfortunate moments. One on a trip to
Henry's Lake (West Yellowstone isn't a good place to be forced to go reel
shopping) and one on two week trip to the Deschutes. A bad reel never
gives up on a trip to Stinkum Creek two miles from home.
