About time someone said something sensable ----- Original Message ----- From: Milburn Nope Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2001 9:58 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Okuma reel I am of the belief that a fly reel serves as not much more than something to store your fly line. I cannot imagine ever spending over $50 for a reel. I would rather put my money into the rod, line, leader and flies- those are what are catch fish. In fact I would put my reel behind gas for my truck to get to where I want to fish and a burger and a beer in the evening. Just about any reel you slap on a rod will wind up line. If you get a true pig on, you manipulate the line with your hands and with the rod much more than the reel anyhow. Nothing wrong with those who have the money and enjoy an expensive reel- Just like there is nothing wrong with those who drive expensive cars- however they are a luxury item- not a neccesity to success. You can get to work in a '75 International pickup just like the guy in a BWM and you can catch fish with a $15 Martin reel from Wal-mart just like the guy with a $300 Ross or whatever- The guy in the BMW/Ross may turn more heads- but the guy w/ the Martin reel, if he knows his stuff, can outfish him.
